I always wanted to be an AKA.
Hearing the pledges march and sing outside my dorm room at Florida A & M University in the dawn hours gave me pangs of longing — especially when the Deltas rejected me out of hand.
Anyway, those pangs kinda returned years later, now that Mattel is making a pink-and-green-gowned Barbie to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Alpha Kappa Alphas, the oldest black United States sorority.
I haven’t seen a pic of this AKA Barbie yet, they say she’ll be available on the Barbie Collector site.
