I just listened to Tavis Smiley speak on the Tom Joyner Morning Show, after his much-publicized stepping down.

I missed the part where Tavis may or may not have addressed the Barack Obama flack directly, but I heard him say that he will always take presidental candidates to task and hold them up to the light of scrutiny.

Tavis talked about having so many projects on his table — does this guy have a wife or kids? — like an upcoming documentaly called “My America,” among others.

He said at 43 years old, he’s been on the TJMS for 12 years now, and it’s time to make room for other passions.

“Your gifts will make room for you,” Smiley repeated the wonderful Bible quote, but went on to interpret it in a way that hit my spirit-gut nice and powerfully, saying, “that means the more you do, the more you can do.”

Go ‘head Tavis!

He’s going to help Tom come up with his replacement — and it sounds like they’re going to do it in a fun and maybe contest-like way.
