Omar Gooding Cast in a CBS Pilot Called ‘Can Openers’ as Doctor Darryl Childress
Omar Gooding, the lesser known and uber-talented younger brother of Cuba Gooding, Jr. — who’s probably ready to be described in his own right without that “brother of” intro — has been cast in a new CBS pilot called “Can Openers,” a drama about brain surgeons.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Omar Gooding will play “Dr. Darryl Childress, a sixth-year resident suffering from burnout.”
Yeah, buddy!
Thank Gawd for brothers being cast as doctors.
Guess Taye Diggs’ role in the Grey’s Anatomy-spin off Private Practice, along with the success of Grey’s Anatomy itself (to say nothing of Isaiah Washington’s mess - The Lord giveth a role, and the Lord taketh away a role…) helped pave the way to see more brilliant brothers as surgeons and the like.
Go ‘head, Omar!
Omar Gooding has one of those faces and personas that you love — and know you know him from some specific role, but you can’t quite remember which one.
Good character actor, they call it.
I see one of Omar’s most recent roles was in the movie Lord Help Us, directed by Shavar Ross — who many of us remember as the kindly Dudley from Differ’nt Strokes…
It takes…different strokes…it takes…different strokes to rule the world!
(Okay, I always thought they said “rule” not “move” the world.)
Yes it does…it takes…different strokes to move the world! Mmmm….

It’s good to see Omar get back in the game. I hope the show does well.
